First VA appointment. I now see what the fuss is about. Never in my life have I met a more arrogant, incompetent and rude staff and doctor. Every other doctor is doing it wrong according to them, but they don't have any new ways to fix things, just that we are seeking the wrong treatment and I'm on the wrong medication. What we have in place, and solutions we have found over the last 3 years cat be right. He didn't offer any thing better, or different, only that what we have found to work is wrong.

The phone extension to the clinic does not work properly so it is quite difficult to speak with a human representative, let alone make an appointment. Also, based on my experiences, referrals often get 'lost in the system' or are not communicated properly from the PCM and I have to call my PCM to resend them or make new appointments to ask for another referral for the same issue months later - when the phone system doesn't hang up on me and someone from the office can actually answer.

Other than that all experiences with the VA have been incredible.

The nursing staff was amazing. The female nurse who checked my vitals and the veteran she called in to help her were an absolute delight. The woman who checked me in at the second checkin window was extremely rude. The dr. I saw was the rudest, most sarcastic medical professional I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. I usually spend much of my time defending the VA healthcare program. But, not this one. The VA Healthcare system has a system in place to get every homeless veteran into a home, a program that allows you to see medical professionals outside the VA healthcare if reasonable conditions are not met, and community based outpatient clinics in every community across the country. Then, you have people like this doing everything possible to destroy all the progress that's been made since the 80's. I'll try Hopkinsville. If that's not better, I'll drive to back to Pittsburgh or back to Biloxi, where the health professionals are passionate about their jobs.

I definitely understand that there are few administrative/clerical employees compared to the volume of patients, but there are almost always ways to improve. That all being said, I do think some of the professionals there work very hard to help patients.

If you think Army doctors are clowns, wait till you meet these guys.

The front desk staff tend to be pretty rude. Kiosks were implemented, so I guess they feel the need to bark away anyone who steps to the glass, even after being told to by the doctor.

Thank God I have Tricare for life. I'll be going to regular doctor.

How does the VA hire a doctor with zero knowledge of the army. He asked how I got hurt and I had to explain what a deployment was.....
